Bannockburn 1314

(Robert Bruce’s great victory)

Many writers have claimed that some Knights Templar sought refuge in Scotland having had advance of the mass arrest of members of the Order, in France, on Friday, 13th October 1307.

The theory goes that the fugitive Knights Templar, in order to repay Robert the Bruce who had given them sanctuary, they appeared on the field of Bannockburn in time to turn the tide of battle in favour of the Scottish army. The theory proceeds to suggest that immediately after the battle Robert the Bruce, in order not to antagonise the Pope, created Freemasonry into which the Knights Templar were amalgamated and which meant that Bruce could report to Rome that the Knights Templar no longer existed in Scotland.

The battle of Bannockburn (1314) is one of the crucial events in the history of Scotland and, therefore, of Great Britain.

The author, Peter Armstrong, provides a lucid and succinct account of the situation in Scotland, before and after the battle with, of course, a great deal of information about the battle itself.

This 96 page book is superbly illustrated, as one comes to expect from Osprey Publishing, by Graham Turner. For an illustrated, clear and easy read, about the battle of Bannockburn and the circumstances surrounding it, this book cannot be beaten.
