Brother Robert Burns One Crown piece.

This one crown was issued by the Isle of Man in 1996 to commemorate the life of Burns on the 200th anniversary of his death.

The Manx government retains the right ot mint it's own coinage. It cleverly uses that right to issue commemorative pieces such as this. A one crown piece was worth 5 shillings (25 pence in today's money) so, although it is legal currency on the Isle of Man, it would be crazy to buy this (£5) in order to spend it there!

This large and nicely executed coin is something that many Masonic fans of Burns have in their collections. The obverse shows Burns wearing the regalia of Depute Master - see the Burns prints section for the same picture of the Bard. The reverse shows Her Majesty the Queen, Elizabeth, in profile. as on all United Kingdom coinage.
